Trinis and cell phones!

Why is it when Trinis are on their cell phones they are oblivious to the world around them?! Recently while moving around the city I had a couple encounters with the phone wielding trinis, On my way back to the office just as i reached the corners of Carlos and Ariapita, the light turned red so i stopped to wait my turn, littlie miss Nokia was approaching the intersection on foot, finished with a call and started another while attempting to cross the road, the lights for us changed to green so traffic started moving again little miss nokia stepped into the road without looking, guess what happened? she was almost run over by a SUV, not driven by me though. She probably did not learn the little ditty while at school. “Look before you cross the street up and down up and down” or she was just too distracted by the mobile to remember how to cross the street.

Went to collect some stuff for the office in port of spain, Got to the place stood there waiting and waiting and waiting until it was my turn, then i approached the counter and waited and waited again, do you know what i was waiting on? I’d tell you, It was for Mrs Samsung to get off the cell phone and attend to me, HELLO! Have anyone heard of telephone Etiquette? Well it applies to mobile phones too. GUESS WHAT! There is something named good customer relations and that applies to the people you serve on a daily basis, Did Mrs Samsung have qualifications in customer relations? I think she did or was she too busy on the cell phone to remember what she learn in business school? I think she was!

On my way home from work, heading east on the eastern main road. The traffic started slowing until it was crawling and stopping sometimes, I noticed cars getting on the opposite carriageway and overtaking, when it was my turn to overtake lo and behold i saw Mr. Sony ericsson in the middle of the road cell phone at ear and crawling at about 5kmph oblivious to the fact that he was causing probably 4 miles of traffic behind him, blowing the horn to alert him didn’t work he just shook his head and kept on crawling on. What does the law say about cell phones while driving? Use a head set, if you don’t have one and you must take or make a call pull to the side of the road and do so. Do you think the driver of the offending vehicle knew that? I think he did. But he just chose to disregard the law and be a nuisance to all the other road users….. These Trinis and their cell phones is the worst

Recession

Well they say we in a recession, what exactly is a recession? I personally don’t know but i will like to find out.  Well i looked it up on wikipedia and this is what they said about it:

This article is about a general slowdown in economic activity. For other uses, see Recession (disambiguation).

In economics, a recession is a general slowdown in economic activity over a sustained period of time, or a business cycle contraction.[1][2] During recessions, many macroeconomic indicators vary in a similar way. Production as measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employment, investment spending, capacity utilization, household incomes and business profits all fall during recessions.

I still don’t think that we are in a recession, but who is me to say that? I’m not an economist. According  to An article in the 1975 New York times.

In a 1975 New York Times article, economic statistician Julius Shiskin suggested several rules of thumb for identifying a recession, one of which was "two down quarters of GDP".[3] In time, the other rules of thumb were forgotten,[4] and a recession is now often defined simply as a period when GDP falls (negative real economic growth) for at least two quarters.[5][6] Some economists prefer a more robust definition of a 1.5% rise in unemployment within 12 months.

Attributes.

According to the wikipedia These are the attributes of a recession.

A recession has many attributes that can occur simultaneously and can include declines in coincident measures of activity such as employment, investment, and corporate profits.

A severe (GDP down by 10%) or prolonged (three or four years) recession is referred to as an economic depression, although some argue that their causes and cures can be different.[7] As an informal shorthand, economists sometimes refer to different recession shapes, such as V-shaped, U-shaped, L-shaped and W-shaped recessions.

In the US, V-shaped, or short-and-sharp contractions followed by rapid and sustained recovery, occurred in 1954 and 1990-91; U-shaped (prolonged slump) in 1974-75, and W-shaped, or double-dip recessions in 1949 and 1980-82. Japan’s 1993-94 recession was U-shaped and its 8-out-of-9 quarters of contraction in 1997-99 can be described as L-shaped. Korea, Hong Kong and South-east Asia experienced U-shaped recessions in 1997-98, although Thailand’s eight consecutive quarters of decline should be termed L-shaped.

I still not sure and i will be doing some more research. but if you are an economist or you think you know something about the subject let me know………… The last recession i know about in T&T Was in the late 80’s to early 90’s and Lord it was real hard for us, based on how things are now, is a big fat nooooooo…….

The life of a Trinidadian: Sadness

The life of a Trinidadian: Sadness

Sadness

Well we have certainly reached where we are heading, The state of affairs in This place we call home,(Trinidad and Tobago) has deteriorated so badly that people now resort to kidnapping little girls and boys and murdering them.
Little Tecia Henry went out on an errand for her mother on Saturday morning and never returned, they found her this morning stuffed under a house in the area where lived and played. when i heard that they found her dead i felt sick in my stomach, as i write this i am trying desperately to hold back the tears, You see i have seen little Tecia many times where she attended school, my three daughters attended that school also, i believe they were friends. As a father my heart go out to her family and the ones that disappeared without a trace There was little Hope Arismandes Leah Lamy ond others that i just dont remember. we need to do something about this new trend of crime that is gripping this nation. someone pray for us.
